FOUR DISTINCTIVE SEASONS OF (GB) GILGIT BALTISTAN

GB is blessed with so many incredible sights. The natural beauty of GB is famous the world over and is called a “paradise for tourists.” One of the key characteristics of these areas is the distinctive nature of the different seasons.

  1. Winter, the cold season: (Mid-November to Mid-April)
  2. Spring, pre-monsoon season: (Mid-April to June)
  3. Summer, monsoon season: (July to Mid-September)
  4. Autumn, post-monsoon season: (Mid-September to Mid- November).

Winter, Cold Season: (Mid-November to Mid-April)

The winter in Gilgit Baltistan is harsh but has its own unique drama, primarily due to the heavy snowfall. The small streams, waterfalls, and even the shores of rivers freeze up. This brings an opportunity for winter sports games like skiing, skating, and cricket on the ice. GB becomes cold and temperatures fall below the freezing point during the months of December, January, and February.

Spring, Pre-Monsoon Season: (Mid-April to June)

Spring is the season of growth. Flowers bloom and new leaves sprout as the weather becomes so pleasant that everything has new life, as an indication of rebirth after the harsh winter season. A variety of colorful flower species produce fragrant blossoms. Thousands of visitors arrive to see the cherry blossoms in bloom. Spring is the best season of the year for alpine mountain climbing. (K-2Peak 8611m; Nanga Parbat 8126m; Gasherbrum-1, K 5 8080m; Broad Peak 8051m; and Gasherbrum-11 (K4) 8035 m). The major festival celebrated in this season is called Now Rooz. This is the first festival of the year celebrated in GB on March 21st of each year. It calls attention to the initiation of the growing season and the time for cultivation.

Summer Season, Monsoon Season: (July to Mid-September)

Summer has its own character, because this is the time that GB’s natural beauty reaches its peak. One may visit lush green valleys boasting corn fields, seasonal fruit trees, and vegetables. The sight of farmers working in the fields is very picturesque and reflects their peaceful and harmonious lifestyle. The breathtaking vistas, stunning springs, streams and waterfalls are enough to entertain visitors of all tastes.

Autumn, Post Monsoon Season: (Mid-September to Mid- November).

In autumn the temperature drops as summer ends. The leaves change in color and fall from the trees. The hue of the leaves changes into gold and yellow, which offers a magnificent sight for visitors. Autumn appears with a different and new look as a farewell to summer and welcoming the winter. Autumn is a sort of culminating season of all the activities in the fields and pastures. Many tempting and delicious fruits ripen during this season.
